Cock on the mountain top?

// May 19th, 2004 // All

Growing up in Pakistan one cant but help getting accustomed to the singularities of the chinese way of ‘branding’ goods. Good ol’ red china will come up with the most remarkable names for things-from the ‘three rings’ brand of padlocks to ‘flying squirrel’ brand of air-gun pellets..

Inundated as we are with everything from chinese trains to air-pumps one eventually gets the head around the seemingly random names assigned to stuff-at least the red indian’s way of naming things has survived them.

But ‘cock on the mountain top’ even had me in pangs of laughter-there was a line and i have the feeling this just crossed it. What in hells name is ‘cock on the mountain top’ supposed to mean anyways?
Sometimes i like to ruminate about possible deeper meanings-but i despair.
What was C.O.T.M.T you ask? of all things- frozen ‘young’ coconut water with coconut pieces.
Speaking of which, its the most incredible daab [coconut water] I’ve had in my life. With the stuff that you get in Karachi, you never know it can be sweet (nothing compared to this though) or its little more than glorified sea water [ i.e. tap water, if you live in defence].
For those who’s taste buds I?ve primed- i can think of nothing better than some ice cold daab [even if it's karachi style] and yousuf’s bun kabaab [a desi style burger made from a vegetarian lentil based patty].. with extra chutney.
Yousuf, BTW is located in dhoraji on the same side as the daabwalas.
: Burgers (you know who you are), don?t trouble yourself, just goto hanifia at boatbasin-that’ll do.
