Yeh duniya agar mil bhi jaaye

Sahir Ludhianvi for Guru Dutt’s masterpiece, Pyasaa.
Poetry to which Guru Dutt did great justice.
Yeh Mahalon, Yeh Takhton, Yeh Taajon Ki Duniya
Yeh Insaan Ke Dushman, Samajon Ki Duniya
Yeh Daulat Ke Bhooke, Rawajon Ki Duniya
Yeh Duniya Agar Mil Bhi Jaaye, To Kya Hai ?Har Ek Jism Ghayal, Har Ek Rooh Pyaasi
Nigaahon Mein Uljhan Dilon Mein Udaasi
Yeh Duniya Hai Ya Aalam-E-Badhawaasi
Yeh Duniya Agar Mil Bhi Jaaye, To Kya Hai ?Yahan Ek Khilona Hai Insaan Ki Hasti
Yeh Basti Hai Murda Paraston Ki Basti
Yahan Zindagi Se Bhi Hai Maut Sasti
Yeh Duniya Agar Mil Bhi Jaaye, To Kya Hai ?Jawaani Bhatakti Hai Badkaar Bankar
Jawaan Jism Sajte Hain Baazar Bankar
Yahaan Pyar Hota Hai Vyopar Bankar
Yeh Duniya Agar Mil Bhi Jaaye, To Kya Hai ?Yeh Duniya Jahaan Aadmi Kuchh Nahin Hai
Wafaa Kuchh Nahin Dosti Kuchh Nahin Hai
Jahan Pyaar Ki Kadr Hi Kuchh Nahin Hai
Yeh Duniya Agar Mil Bhi Jaaye, To Kya Hai ?Jalaa Do Ise Phoonkh Dalo Yeh Duniya
Jalaa Do, Jalaa Do, Jalaa Do Phoonkh Dalo Yeh Duniya
Mere Samne Se Hata Lo Yeh Duniya
Tumhari Hai Tum Hi Sambhalo Yeh Duniya
Yeh Duniya Agar Mil Bhi Jaaye, To Kya Hai ?

Guru Dutt is truly an inspiration to us all. His was a great director, producer and actor. He and Dev Anand started off together and were room mates. They had made a pact that whoever made it first would help the other. Dev Anand made it first and as promised took Guru Dutt with him. Bazi was their first venture together. Dev Anand produced and acted and Guru Dutt directed. Bazi did very well at the box office and the rest is history.
Guru Dutt’s Pyaasa is my favorite. It is not only cinematically beautiful, but also full of meanings and morals. It is amazing how well he understood life and how he found a way to present it tastefully –that is true art. Guru Dutt initially wanted a more pronounced actor than himself to play the main part, but because of the sensitivity of the topic many actors frowned away from the part. And because he was so passionate about the subject, he played the main part. He is exceptional in the role; no other actor may have done the justice to the role as Guru Dutt did. Needless to say, the movie did not score well with audiences of that time. But the movie is a monumental part of Indian history and a pivotal point for Indian cinema. Pyaasa is consider a classic and has received much recognition after even so many years. So it could be said the movie was made before its time and now that Guru Dutt is no longer with us we realize what we have lost—much like the movie Pyaasa.
