[i'm loving my own micro-blogging through titles, as you can see above.]
the hammams (i.e. spa) in turkey were brilliant, what was particularly interesting was how they are currently now back in ‘fashion’. Lahore it seems also has a shahi hammam (i.e royal hammam) dating from the 15th century. i havent been able to find out much about it – other than that its close to the wazir khan (a very funky part of old lahore – and i remember reading in one of rudyard kipling’s (the poet laureate for the empire / raj (which, i suppose should mean that modern day indians and pakistanis should have somewhat complicated feelings towards his writings)) how he, when he couldnt sleep would walk up to the wazir khan to climb one of its minarets and watch the dozing city of lahore lay dormant at his feet. in my mind’s eye i can almost imagine doing this myself, watching an ‘organic’, city like lahore is fascinating – even when it pauses to catch its breath, it never quite falls into a deep slumber)
